Death Before Dishonor! :: Server Setup Guide
The Basics | Hosting | Administration Tools | Getting Traffic | Funding Your Server | Tips and Tricks
Chances are that if you're here, you've already played on a game server - possibly the DBD Clan Natural Selection Server. You may also be wondering "Why would I want my own server when there are plenty of others already out there?" Well, the sad truth is that while there may be many, many servers for Half-Life games (especially Counter-Strike[: Source]), many of them aren't managed well.
Common problems include bad management, ridiculous modifications, and ornery players, and we're not even getting into Natural Selection specific issues. When we formed a clan, we had a choice to make; either find another game to play, or start our own clan and order a server. You see, there aren't that many Natural Selection servers in the first place - on top of that, add the very large percentage of servers that have modifications which change game dynamics almost beyond recognition and you can see our dilemma.
Call me old-fashioned, but I enjoy Natural Selection the way the developers made it. There are very few things I'd change, and among those, none of them greatly alter the gameplay experience. So if this all sounds familiar, read through the rest of the guide and consider ordering a server for yourself.
